APOSTOLIC LETTER
SOCIOSPIRITUALITY
UBICUMQUE
ET SEMPER
OF THE SUPREME PONTIFF
BENEDICT XVI
ESTABLISHING THE
PONTIFICAL COUNCIL
FOR PROMOTING THE NEW
EVANGELIZATION
It is the duty of the Church to proclaim always and everywhere
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He, the first and supreme
evangelizer, commanded the Apostles on the day of his
Ascension to the Father: “Go therefore and make disciples of
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you” (Mt 28:19-20). Faithful to this mandate,
the Church—a people chosen by God to declare his wonderful
deeds (cf. 1 Peter 2:9)—ever since she received the gift of the
Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (cf. Acts 2:14), has never
tired of making known to the whole world the beauty of the
Gospel as she preaches Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
the same “yesterday and today and for ever” (Heb 13:8), who,
by his death and Resurrection, brought us salvation and fulfilled
the promise made of old. Hence the mission of evangelization,
a continuation of the work desired by the Lord Jesus, is
necessary for the Church: it cannot be overlooked; it is an
expression of her very nature.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness is a well
known axiom. But, what do we see around us
today? Garbage, filth and debris are strewn all
over the place. I was pained to read in the
newspapers recently that Bangalore, which is
supposed to be a Garden City, has now
become a garbage city! It’s indeed a great pity!
And all of us who are living here should own
the responsibility. I guess, similar situations do
exist in other parts of our state and country.
When we speak of cleanliness, we normally
think of our environment and the outside
realities. Yes, cleanliness outside is very
important. But, what we primarily require today
is the inner cleanliness, purity and holiness.
By saying this, I am not discounting or
belittling the need for and the importance of
external cleanliness.

NEW EVANGELIZATION
“The Church today ought to take a giant step
forward in her evangelization effort, and enter into
a new stage of history in her missionary
dynamism”.
(1) This statement in Christifideles
Laici is still very relevant today, and the role of
the laity in this process continues to be
irreplaceable. Christ said “you too go into my
vineyard” (Mt 20: 3-4), and this invitation should
be seen as a clear call to an ever-growing
number of lay men and women to take on their
responsibility in the life and mission of the
Church. This refers to their responsibility in the
life and mission of all the Christian communities
– dioceses and parishes, and ecclesial
associations and movements. The engagement
of lay people in evangelization is already
changing the life of the Church
(2), and this is a
major sign of hope for the Church.

CLEANLINESS
IS NEXT TO
GODLINESS
Archbishop of Bangalore,
Most. Rev. Bernard Moras
ETHOS

A major FOCUS AREA of this Institute is to understand and make known the passing over from the
old law to the new testament that Christ calls each Christian to a paradigm shift from legalism to
grace.

Christian ethos is not merely an ethic system but a transformation of heart. That we clean the
inside of the cup and not merely the outside.

We champion Christians, especially the youth to the ETHOS that will transform society that people
may see our good character and glorify our Father in Heaven. We conduct programs at various
levels such as medical ethics, family ethics, accountability amongst religious workers, etc.

Anyone aspiring to join such a program must learn to walk in humility and submission before God
and to the obedience to the Church. It calls for allowing God to remove the vinegar (bitterness from
past experiences) and then cleasne our hearts from the taste of the vinegar and then allow Him to
fill our hearts with honey.

Christian Ethos refers to the transformation HEART. Our hearts must first be set free from the
dominion of lust and hatred.

We aim at protecting the faithful from ideologies such as puritianism and manichaeism where this
ideology indicates that the body is evil. To say that the body is evil, is to accuse God of creating
humans. As John Paul II says "The Manichaean way of seeing man's body and sexuality is foreign
to the Gospel."
Dedicated to and under the Patronage of His Holiness, Blessed John Paul II
