Without our values, we cease to be us. Being a decision maker in my organization, ethics can become a guiding principle for critical decision making. In a corrupt society, time taken to secure approvals is perceived as directly proportionate to the corrupt practices that one indulges in. While there are some short term gains in this method, it is standing by our values such as Honesty, Truthfulness, Trustworthiness, Professional Integrity etc., that enable us to build on the rock, leading to slow but consistent growth and success. Hence we shall not subordinate these values for short term gains. In the module, you will be presented with case studies of confronting and combating corruption head on, and being vindicated by God when you stand up for what is right. 6 PEACE & SOCIAL JUSTICE AT THE WORK PLACE Rev. Fr. Arokianathan (Fmr. Vatican Radio broadcaster) Secretary - Ecumenism Commission, Archdiocese of Bangalore Peace is the need of the moment! People of all sectors today are have almost lost peace that they look for. Scriptures widely speak about the need for peace Mt.11:28.. People are fed up with any type of life today at any level of this society Youth and adults working at various sectors including IT sector seek for peace despite of the presence of handful of monies. The modern society is afflicted with mental sickness that is void of Peace is lot as justice is lost. Justice delayed justice denied and hence peace is denied. Christian ethics demands justice in the work place but this justice is refused by the same Christian society in different levels of our corporate world. Hence Jn 20:22 is to be explained vividly to the modern elite society because the modern elite society is living in fear of losing their modern life... Thus Jesus says, Peace be to you... be not be afraid, be courageous, be believing and not doubting... Church broadly endorses the use of the church documents for the support of regaining social justice and peace. The Pontifical Congregation for Peace and Justice in the Holy See recommend for the modern the urgency of peace and justice. The people at the lower strata are denied of justice at every level of today's society and thus peace is a thing of the past, opines the church document "RERUM NOVARUM" The presentation of the module on Peace and Justice will delve deep in the light of the above said insights 7 ADMINISTRATION AS A MISSION Dr. Savio Pereira - Medical Superintendent, St. Johns Medical College Many people get frustrated with administration and find this job as mundane and therefore are accused of dereliction of duties and many times are convicted of the same in both corporate and in government sectors. Every one has a need to be an administrator in order to be organized in the function that you perform at work. In this module, you will understand the work of an administrator, the gifts of an administrator and the character of an administrator. 8 HONESTY IN BUSINESS OPERATIONS Ralph Coutinho - Head - Supply Chain Management - Essilor In business operations there are transactions that take place. Many times, in dealing corporate and retail procurements, one is tempted to bribe and the clear bills dishonestly. Also those in-charge of such duties accept gifts in the form of brides to pass invoices. This module will deal with such issues with case studies and will also deal with micro level tasks of challenges that approach every individual regardless of profession or title. 9 SELF RESPECT & DIGNITY OF WOMEN AT THE WORKPLACE MaryAnn Joseph -HR- Head- Talent Management, Deloitte THE DIGNITY AND THE VOCATION OF WOMEN - a subject of constant human and Christian reflection - have gained exceptional prominence in recent years. This can be seen, for example, in the statements of the Church's Magisterium present in various documents of the Second Vatican Council, which declares in its Closing Message: "The hour is coming, in fact has come, when the vocation of women is being acknowledged in its fullness, the hour in which women acquire in the world an influence, an effect and a power never hitherto achieved. That is why, at his moment when the human race is undergoing so deep a transformation, women imbued with a spirit of the Gospel can do so much to aid humanity in not falling". This Message sums up what had already been expressed in the Council's teaching, specifically in the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes and in the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity Apostolicam Actuositatem. In today's world, there seems to be confusion in understanding the dignity of womanhood by men. Women on the other hand have also been confused as to how to dress in and behave in a "modern" and "globalized" work environment. This module will attempt to educate society on such matters. 10 FAITH & FINANCE IN BUSINESS Alex Anthony - CEO, Rods & Creels Most working professionals are lavish in their spending and end up as creditors. This is not being faith-full to the Gospel. This is greed which resulted in the depression of the US economy and it has spread around the world. On the other hand, how do we trust God to live with our means of earnings? If we are running our own businesses, how do we trust God when our bills have to be paid and our clients have not made their payments to us? This will help every individual to look at finances differently in the face of faith. 11 EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE & META-ETHICS AT THE WORK PLACE Dr. Dominic F. Dixon (Psychologist) - Provost, ETHOS From the onset of the Christian Church, the mission was to heal the broken hearted. Healing of our fall from grace where man chose to wound him self and scorn himself. Seduced by the devil, man chose to be like God but without God. [CCC # 388, 389, 398] Having fallen and hurt, man in turn hurts all of mankind. We have become emotionally unintelligent. We see that emotional imbalance right at the book of Genesis where Cain killed Abel. In the present state of the Church, we see the sociological injustice of Cain & Abel. We have introduced our children to a society that is intolerant, a community that is unaccountable and world that is insolent. Because of all of this, we find ourselves compromising on our ethics. This module will challenge the way we respond to issues, emotionally and will confront the stand or our ethics. 12 PAPER REVIEW ON "AN ETHICAL FRAMEWORK FOR MULTINATIONALS DOING BUSINESS IN INDIA AND A PROPOSAL FOR A GLOBALIZATION ETHIC."
